I Got me Some Good Genes

The coolest thing just happened. I was procuring my morning tank of coffee and a woman I didn't know said, "Are you a runner or a tennis player?"

"A runner," I replied.

"You have awesome legs...I would kill to have those calves. Even when I was running and playing tennis I never had calves like that."

Me, kind of embarrassed and flattered at the same time: "Well, thank you! Heh heh...I've always had big calf muscles."

"I think you just have to be in the right gene pool."

"I inherited my dad's muscles," I said. This is true. My legs are almost identical to my dad's (a little less hairy, though).

Oh, and the reason my awesome gams were on display for all to see...well, I'm wearing kind of a short skirt today. Heck, I figure I've worked so darn hard for these strong legs I deserve to show them off occasionally. Or pretty much all the time (I love summer).

Interesting that those are the two sports she picked... I imagine a lot of sports could create great legs. I usually get asked if I'm a dancer.

I've never believed we should take all the credit for looking good. It's part genes, part luck (to not suffer from a debilitating illness or injury) and what's left over is our own efforts.

How nice to get a compliment!

I show off my legs too. Though, I usually just wear shorts. Most times.

That is a nice compliment. Compliments are best in the morning or late at night.

I've just discovered your blog while looking for other Michigan running blogs. Congrats on your awesome 14M run and excellent pace. I'm going to add you blog to my list unless you object.

Everyone always tells me I have an upper body like a...runner. Not sure how to take that.

Way to crank out those 14 miles BTW. It'll get easier but, of course, post 20 miles is NEVER easy. Just expect it that way. If you can get fairly comfortable up to around 20, you'll be in great shape for the marathon.

Viper-- I don't even want to know...

Big-- Awesome! Go for it, and I will do the same. I'm always looking for other MI run-bloggers!

Nitmos-- When I was taking a brief break the other day during my 14 mile run my husband said I had that "runner's chest." I guess he meant that concave, hunched-over pose than comes with poor posture (guilty) and a nearly two-dimensional upper body.

That's an awesome compliment! I'd love to have someone notice my legs other than my kids who latch on when they're running from one another or crying because they nosedived. *sigh* I'll just live vicariously through you!
