Thursday Thoughts: Running at Work

Two weeks ago I packed my duffel bag full of running clothes and brought it to work with me. It took me 3 years but I finally went for my first run at work. It has quickly become my new favorite thing to do. I ran 3 days the first week, 3 days last week, and 4 this week. I do tempo runs, hill work, and recovery runs. I run alone or with co-workers. The sun is up. It's not dark. It's not quite as cold. It's perfect. I have a locker room to change in and showers I may use if I feel especially gross. (Confession: I just put my work clothes back on and return to my cubicle. It's winter, I'm not that sweaty, so what. I may reassess come summer.)

Now all I can think is WHY THE HELL DID IT TAKE ME THIS LONG TO FIGURE THIS SHIT OUT?

Ugh.

Kind of like WHY THE HELL DID I START TAKING VOICE LESSONS WHEN I WAS ALMOST 30 AND NOT 10 YEARS EARLIER?! I could have been a professional singer...*sob*

Enough. Do not dwell on the past. I can't go back, I can only go forward. Boston is looming, and I am finally enjoying my training. I ran twice today, once at work and then in the evening with my Running Fit Thursday peeps. The final mile or so of tonight's run I was cranking on a 7:35/mile pace. It felt so good.

My running mojo, it is BACK!

Better late than never! I love running at work during lunch... you can avoid running in the early AM or in darkness, it's a great way to get away from the office, and running with coworkers can actually make them seem less annoying. Good luck with your training!

Wish I was able to run at work, lucky and yes as the previous poster said, better late than never. Glad you found something that is working for you.

It took me 30 years to finally take swim lessons. Although to be honest, I would never had had a shot at being a professional swimmer. :)

Good luck with your training.

I used to be able to do that, and it was a fantastic break. No good place to change clothes at my new workplace. Oh, well.

It's so nice to take a break from work and get in a good run.

Great job sticking with it and taking your gear. Congrats on getting out to run at work.

I do an a.m. run before work and the finish my miles after work. I love starting my day with a run and getting rid of daily stress after work!

You're right, dwelling on the past makes no sense. If you started lessons at ten, who knows if you'd even be singing now? You could have quit for innumerable reasons and might even hate singing now. Keep the clumping mojo going!

Glad to hear the running is fun again. And, running in the afternoons is the best. I love how much extra energy you have then.
