Much Ado About Nothing

Well, almost. My visit to the doctor this afternoon yielded a diagnosis of IT band syndrome. Oh, is that all? My knee joint is not on the verge of a massive meltdown? Well, that's good news.

On the other hand, this means I will have to become much more diligent about stretching, an activity I frequently neglect.

Obviously.

In other news, my sinking deeper into the time-sucking morass that is my iPhone (my preciousssssss) just got even more enveloping because I downloaded an application that will allow me to update my blog anywhere, anytime.

Aren't you all the lucky ones.

IT band, that is good news. Stretching is fun, takes lots of time before and after (allow for a good 20 to 25 min each session), and you never wish you were doing anything other than stretching while you are stretching.

At least now you and blog and stretch at the same time.

Ugh. ITBS sucks. I found the cho-pat strap to help greatly while I recovered. Also, building my abductors was very important too. Mine were very weak, and so during foot strike, my femur tilted so that my knee leaned inward (towards the other knee), which aggravated my ITB where it came around the kneecap. Eventually it could take no more and became inflamed. ITBS. Yea. I could spot my weak ITB in so many pictures where my knees were coming together while I ran.

Will this affect Cleveland at all? Not your chances of running the Cleveland marathon - I mean will this news impact, say, the Cleveland local economy or the job market in the Metropolitan Cleveland area? Because shouldn't we be paying more attention to how stuff we do affects Cleveland and possibly Dayton?

Oh you mean like the butterfly effect? Well, Viper could lose his job (whatever it is) and become northeast Ohio's main distributor of Baltika.

Also, don't forget Toledo, the other mistake on the lake. Poor forgotten Toledo.

oh, hey, i think that is good news. I was afraid it was something that would have you off your feet for a long time.

IT bands are fascinating things, (and another example of bad engineering, especially in us women with hips and all), so i wish you luck in finding a myriad of stretches to keep yourself interested while you work it out.

(sigh, and one more reminder that those lunges and side lunges, WITH GOOD FORM, really are good for me. No matter how much i hate them.)

ITBS is nothing to sneeze at, but I'm happy for you that it's nothing catastrophic.

Good news that it's just ITB - nothing that stretching & rolling can't fix. Or ignore when you get lost in your precioussss :)

I also once thought my knee was disintegrating and also (self) diagnosed IT band. Stretching helped. As did easing in and out of runs more slowly.

I battle ITBS regularly.. I picked up a foam roller, and I really think it does help..

Can't you figure out a way to make your iPhone do your stretching for you? And double as a foam roller?

Great, I already spend too much time on the iPhone with Facebook, and Safari, now I have to be able to effectivly blog, too? Thanks for nothin... :)

The knee clicking thing is seriously evil. I coudn't run for a full week last year thanks to my effing IT Band till I made really good friends with my foam roller. Like twice a day. Everyday. I've also found it helps to roll out the quad as well as the IT Band.

I'm also a big fan of straight leg raises, which seem to help my predilaction towards runners knee, as well.

hahaha, love the iNeedhelp. :D I know you know this, but you have such a way with words (referring more to the "morass" than the iPhone).

Well goodie, ITBS isn't so bad! Do you have a foam roller? That's supposed to really help. Good luck!

I foam rolled my leg at the store after my group run last night. It was both agonizing and strangely satisfying at the same time. "Hurts so good" would be an apt description (thanks, John (Cougar) Mellencamp).

Some nerd (not me) should totally get on that iPhone app for stretching. iStretch perhaps?

Viper-- They can have my iPhone when they pry it from my cold, dead hand. Along with my TiVo. So you just hush now.

jen-- That's what happens when you spend a couple of decades doing crossword puzzles. Hello, vocabulary!

It hurts like a beeyotch when you hit the knotted area, but stay with it. Welcome the pain.
